Are you building a real airplane, or a model? [TOP]
It is a real honest to goodness airplane with wings, seats, propeller, silk scarf, leather helmet, and more.
Are you crazy... You are actually going to fly that thing?! [TOP]
I prefer sanity-challenged, and yes, I am going to fly it as often as possible. I may even ask you if you want to go for a ride.
Why not buy an already built airplane? [TOP]
Been-there-done-that, besides this one will go faster, higher, and perform better.
What is it made out of? [TOP]
Money! No really, aluminum.
How fast will it go? [TOP]
With any luck, over 200MPH.
How high will it go? [TOP]
High enough… over 20,000 feet if I wanted to.
How far will it go? [TOP]
Over 700 miles on a full tank (depending on wind conditions).
How many seats will it have? [TOP]
Two with room for about 100 pound of luggage.
Are you going to take Sonoma (dog) flying? [TOP]
I am not sure, it can be dangerous taking a dog flying, besides we don't have a leather helmet that fits her.
How long will it take to build? [TOP]
It depends on how often you come over to help or how much money you send me for Christmas, but probably about 2000 hours or 3-4 years.
How much will it cost? [TOP]
You don't want to know. Come to think of it... *I* don't want to know.
Where did you learn to do this stuff? [TOP]
Here and there. I took a sheet metal class, read a few books, but the instructions are pretty good and there is a large community of other builders that I can use as a resource.
Why tip-up? [TOP]
1) The visibility is superior. 2) It looks better (IMHO).
What engine are you going to put in it? [TOP]
Not sure yet, but if money were no object, I would put an IO-390 up front. One thing is for sure, I want 200HP or more.
Why a tailwheel? [TOP]
It looks better and I like flying tailwheel aircraft.
Why and RV-7 not a 9? [TOP]
The speed and agility is superior. Please no nasty-grams from the 9 drivers out there.
What primer do you use? [TOP]
PPG DP48LF 2-Part Epoxy. It is a pain in the butt, it smells, but it is tough stuff.
Have you thought about avionics? [TOP]
Yes. Oh you want to know more, sorry. Right now, I am leaning towards a Dynon EFIS, a Garmin 396 GPS coupled to a SL30 Nav/Comm, and a Garmin GTX330 Transponder. I am also eyeing the Advanced Flight Systems AF-2500 Engine Monitor, but after that I haven't thought about it much.
