Repaired Right Tank Z-Bracket
I was able to get a friend help me move the wing tonight so I am one step closer to being able to rivet the bottom skins, but there is still a few things I need to take care of.
You might recall from my April 1st log entry that one of the z-bracket nutplates on the right tanks was stripped. I had to remove the tank and replace the nutplate. I thought this would take a lot longer than it did, but it is done and not I am finally ready to rivet.
It was a little strange seeing the tank off the wing again, but it had to be done.
Here is the offending nutplate (after replacement).
Once the tank was reinstalled, I torqued all the z-bracket bolts and gave them a little bit of inspection lacquer (torque seal). I oriented the inspection lacquer towards the access plates so that inspecting them would hopefully be easier. I might be being a bit optimistic in my assumption that that tanks are on for good. We will just have to see if my prediction holds to the test of time.
It was too late to start riveting, so I decided to finish installing the inspection plate nutplates on the left wing. It would have been easier to rivet the nutplates with the skin off the wing, but it wasn't that hard to do.
