Random Wing Stuff

Another night of small random tasks for me. I am anxious to start riveting the bottom skins on the right wing, so I primed the rivet lines of the bottom right skins tonight. The skins are now ready to go, but I'll have to get a friend or neighbor to help me move the wing to the table. In the meantime, I took care of a few other things.

I had ordered some 6-32 1/4" stainless steel button head screws for attaching the pitot to the mast and they came in today. They are a lot smaller and look better than the phillips hardware screws I had been using temporarily.

I mentioned this the other night, but here is my the fitting from the SafeAir1 kit installed in the rib. This will keep everything nice and secure.

Here is what it looks like from the other side. You can see the large aluminum spacer and thin rubber washer.

I had deliberately not installed the access plate nutplates on the bottom skins thinking it would be easier to bend the skins and rivet them without the nutplates in place. I don't know if it was or not, but since the left bottom skins are now riveted, I started installing the nutplates with NAS1097 rivets. I only got one of the access covers done before calling it a night.
